A number is a mathematical object used for counting, measurements, and performing calculations.

There are several types of numbers:

  • Natural numbers: 1, 2, 3, …
  • Integers: …, -1, 0, 1, …
  • Rational numbers: 1/2, -1/4, …
  • Real numbers: any number on the number line
  • Complex numbers: numbers containing real and imaginary parts. ex: 4x+3
