virtual terminals

0001-01-01

A virtual terminal (VT) aka virtual console (VC) is a conceptual combination of the keyboard and display for a computer user interface.

Prior to the advent of virtual terminals, terminals were physical devices consisting of a display and a keyboard that a user had to lug around and plug into the system in order to use it.

Unix-like operating systems such as Linux, BSD, and macOS feature virtual terminals.
