bring your own island

0001-01-01

Bring Your Own Island (BYOL) is a contradictory approach to offensive operations from living off the land in which the attacker brings their own tools.

An example of this would be the attacker installing a virtual machine on a victimized host and operating from the virtual machine to attack the network. The rationale is that EDR and other detection software will allow virtual machines to run, but lack visibility inside the virtual machine.
