security researchers often fixate on new topics

Security researchers (and other types of researchers) tend to fixate on hot, new, shiny, or hyped-up topics and ignore many older issues that still have a lot of room to be researched.

This often happens to topics that get introduced as little as a few weeks prior; there’s an initial push to be the first to cover the research on the topic. Shortly thereafter, it fizzles out into obscurity, despite the problem persisting.

Often, these issues persist for years, neglected and ignored.
