Slack space refers to unused/extra space within storage/packet blocks on filesystems, network packets, etc. Slack space may contain hidden or residual data.
For example, a filesystem may allocate storage in fixed-sized clusters of 4kb. If a small file contains 1kb of data, the remaining 3kb is slack space.
