lasso guard sweep - 1

0001-01-01

I am not sure if this technique has a name, but to me it is the “classic” lasso guard sweep in BJJ.

The aggressor initiates lasso guard. When their opponent moves in a way to pass the guard or defend their base, the aggressor swims their foot across their opponent’s lap so their feet are both on the same side.

Next, the aggressor loads their opponent onto their knees by rocking towards the side maintaining the leg lasso, simultaneously grabbing their opponent’s free leg to help guide the sweep. This grip can be on the pants, an underhook “C” grip on their ankle, or an underhook using the biceps.

Finally, the aggressor can rock their off-balanced opponent over for a sweep, while maintaining the grips on the lasso’d arm and opponent’s opposite side leg. If the aggressor maintains the lasso side grip, it positions them in a way that can be followed up with a bicep slicer.
