submission

0001-01-01

In grappling martial arts, a submission is a maneuver that a combatant applies to their opponent that causes them to submit (accept defeat), rendered unconscious, or otherwise incapacitated.

Submission can be done verbally or by the recipient of the submission repeatedly tapping on their opponent. Additionally, the referee and each fighter’s corner typically reserves the right to end a match if they feel the opponent is taking too much damage, has been rendered unconscious, or is unable to continue fighting. The corner can end the fight by “throwing in the towel”, ending the match if they are concerned about the safety of their fighter.
