In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts, a `system` is a game plan that covers a variety of conditions with the intent of advancing the practitioner towards a more desirable position or outcome.
Systems can be broad, focusing on positions on a macro level or focused on a very specific position or set of circumstances that may occur within a broad system.
Examples of broad systems:
- mount
- closed guard
- half guard
- side control
- knee on belly
Examples of more focused systems:
- reverse de la riva
- high ground
- octopus guard
- spider guard
Systems may also be offensive/attacking-focused, or defensive/escaping-focused.
